| September 25th 2011 - Campsie Challenge |
Scouts from the 107th took part in the Campsie Challenge event at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre this weekend. The weekend gives Scouts from the whole of Scotland to compete in two challenges, the Campsie Challenge and the Lunar Challenge. Scouts who did not want to compete could participate in a series of onsite activities, such as the Paradrop and rafting.
The Campsie Challenge is a two day competition. The first day involved Scouts completing a route in an area of the Campsie Fells, between seven bases where they would be challenged on their Scouting skills and knowledge. The Second day tested the Scouts ability to use their navigation skills whilst under pressure by completing a fiendishly difficult orienteering course. The Lunar Challenge is a night hike which challenges teams to finish a set route, of just over 6km, as fast as possible.
At the end of the weekend, the Scouts who took part in the activity weekend were happy that they got meet Scouts from different Troops and take part in a selection of activities. Those competing had a nervous wait before the result were announced. After a few notes of thanks, the results were announced. The Lunar Challenge was first, after a short build up, the team from the 107th were declared the winners for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. After collecting their prize, the results for the Campsie Challenge were announced. After second and third place finishes in recent years, our Scouts were finally rewarded for their efforts by finishing in first place.
Congratulations to all the Scouts who took part this weekend. |
| September 11th 2011 - Barwood Bonanza |
Scouts from the 107th joined others from around Pentland District at Barrwood Bonanza last weekend. Scouts took to the water in coracles and on home made rafts. Their archery skills mimicked those of the legendary Robin Hood. They explored the dark tunnels and the wildlife that calls them home in the caving complex. Sheltered from the weather in bivouacs and defended their tents with giant slingshots. The frequent rain showers even ensured they washed during the camp. |
