Group Camp JOTA

The Scouts, Cubs and Beavers joined forces to attend magical Harry Potter themed group camp. During the weekend the scouts took part in a wide range or activities including caving, geocaching, pioneering, climbing and some wide games.

 
District Flag JOTA

The 107th entered two Patrols in this year's District Flag Camping Competition. Scouts were tested on scout skills, campcraft and teamwork during the course of the event. At the end of the competition, it was revealed 107B finished in second place three points behind the winning patrol, 107A.

For winning our team was awarded the Pentland District Flag for the first time. We have also been granted entry into the National Camping competition in June.

Congratulations to both teams for your successful weekend.

 
Scout Skills Weekend  

Scouts from the Troop took part in a Scout Skills Weekend at Bonaly. Scouts were taught lashings, tent pitching, CPR, navigation and cooking skills. This allowed Scouts to earn several activity badges over the weekend including navigator, camp cook, quartermaster and camper. Congratulations to all the Scouts who took part.

 
Brass Monkey Camp  

Seven Scouts from the Troop join 200 others from Edinburgh at Bonaly for this year's Brass Monkey Camp. Scouts took part in a variety of team challenges and games over the 24 hour event.

 
Sub Zero Camp JOTA

The Troop and another local Troop were able to get out in December for a weekend of Winter Camping. Scouts were able to take part in a variety of activities including making cola fountains, constructing a monkey bridge, and orienteering.

Despite the campsite being fairly wet, Scouts enjoyed one of the more relaxing camps in the Scout programme.

 
Leadership Weekend JOTA

Patrol Leaders and Young Leaders were invited to take pat in a two day leadership weekend. The programme included a mixture of team building, practical skills training.

 
Halloween Camp JOTA

Scouts from the Troop and two Cubs due to move up after the Christmas break, attended the Troop's Halloween camp at the Craigs in West Lothian.

Activities included pumpkin carving. mixing potions, making slime and a Halloween party.

 
Jamboree on the Air JOTA

Scouts from the Troop visited Fordell Firs to take part in the 2009 Jamboree on the Air. During the day Scouts made contact with others from around the world including China, Brazil, Canada, Netherlands and Estonia.

The Scouts also took part in a spot of archery, bungee trampolining, skittles and a radio communication based scavenger hunt.

 
PL Expedition 2009 PL Hike 2009

In August the Troop promoted four Scouts to Patrol Leaders. These Scouts were invited to take part in an Expedition in the Pentland Hills inorder to complete their Expedition Challenge and to learn to work together as a team. The hike started out in the Pentlands before the night was spent camping at Bonaly. The second day saw the Scouts hike along the banks of the Water of Leith. Over the weekend they covered a distance just shy of 30km. During the event the Scouts were challenged to find geocaches along the route. They found a total of 17 over the two days of the expedition. Well done to those involved.

 
Pentland & Lunar Challenges

Five Scouts took part in the Black's of Greenock Pentland Challenge and the Vango Lunar Challenge. These are national events held annually over the course of a weekend. This year, the event moved to Bonaly and the Pentland Hills after being held in the Campsies in 2008. This is the second year that we have entered a team in the competition and it proved to be another successful weekend for our Scouts.

The Pentland Challenge gave the Scouts the opportunity to compete in a six and a half hour challenge hike in the Pentland Hills, whilst the Lunar Challenge is a challenge night hike in the hills. The 107th's team won first prize in the Lunar Challenge, making it 2-in-a-row for the 107th. The team also did very well in the Pentland Challenge finishing in third place, only two points behind the runners up and three points behind the competition winners.

 
Creative Challenge

During the autumn term, our Scouts have been working towards their Creative Challenge. As part of the challenge Scouts were set several problem solving challenges, they were asked to perform musical pieces and construct a model campsites. Well done to all the Scouts who have gained the award.

 
District Camp

The Second Pentland District Camp was held over the bank holiday weekend at Fordell Firs in Fife. We took 12 Scouts to the event where they participated in a wide range of activities including climbing, sailing, cycling, kayaking, abseiling, grass sledging and many more. During the weekend the Scouts gave off a positive image of Scouting in Craiglockhartand were a credit to the Troop.

 
Night Hike  

A group of Scouts from the troop took part in the second annual Night Hike in the Pentland Hills. The hike proved to be a very unusual but rewarding experience for those who took part. The Scouts hiked from 11pm to 3am and were guided by the glow of the full moon. Well done to the Scouts who took the challenge on.

 
Craiglockhart Monopoly  

The Scouts were challenged to explore the local area and find the locations featured on their Craiglockhart Monopoly board. The Scouts raced round Craiglock taking photos at each location which included the Water of Leith Visitor Centre and Craiglockhart Castle.

 
Pentland Hills Expedition

The Pentland Hills provided the setting for three Scouts to take part in an overnight expedition. Unlike previous events where Scouts stayed at Bonaly, the Scouts took thier tents with them for a taste of wild camping.

Over the two days the Scouts were giving a project of finding geocaches along the route. These are boxes hidden in the wild which can be found using GPSr's and coordinates. Well done to the Scouts for taking on the challenge.

 
Summer Camp 2009 - The Barrwood CampsiteCoracles

The Troop held its 2009 Summer camp at Stirling & Falkirk's District Scout Campsite, The Barrwood. We had 17 Scouts in total attend the week long event, where Scouts camped as part of one of three Patrol's, competed in the Patrol Competition, and took part in a very active programme.
