PL Expedition 2009 PL Hike 2009

In August the Troop promoted four Scouts to Patrol Leaders. These Scouts were invited to take part in an Expedition in the Pentland Hills inorder to complete their Expedition Challenge and to learn to work together as a team. The hike started out in the Pentlands before the night was spent camping at Bonaly. The second day saw the Scouts hike along the banks of the Water of Leith. Over the weekend they covered a distance just shy of 30km. During the event the Scouts were challenged to find geocaches along the route. They found a total of 17 over the two days of the expedition. Well done to those involved.

Pentland & Lunar Challenges

Five Scouts took part in the Black's of Greenock Pentland Challenge and the Vango Lunar Challenge. These are national events held annually over the course of a weekend. This year, the event moved to Bonaly and the Pentland Hills after being held in the Campsies in 2008. This is the second year that we have entered a team in the competition and it proved to be another successful weekend for our Scouts.

The Pentland Challenge gave the Scouts the opportunity to compete in a six and a half hour challenge hike in the Pentland Hills, whilst the Lunar Challenge is a challenge night hike in the hills. The 107th's team won first prize in the Lunar Challenge, making it 2-in-a-row for the 107th. The team also did very well in the Pentland Challenge finishing in third place, only two points behind the runners up and three points behind the competition winners.

During the autumn term, our Scouts have been working towards their Creative Challenge. As part of the challenge Scouts were set several problem solving challenges, they were asked to perform musical pieces and construct a model campsites. Well done to all the Scouts who have gained the award.

The Scouts hiked from 11pm to 3amand were guided by the glow of the full moon. Well done to the Scouts who took the challenge on.

The Scouts were challenged to explore the local area and find the locations featured on their Craiglockhart Monopoly board. The Scouts raced round Craiglock taking photos at each location which included the Water of Leith Visitor Centre and Craiglockhart Castle.

Pentland Hills Expedition

Over the two days the Scouts were giving a project of finding geocaches along the route. These are boxes hidden in the wild which can be found using GPSr's and coordinates. Well done to the Scouts for taking on the challenge.
