The Membership Award is the first badge that you wil gain during your time at Scouts. You will complete it if you move up from the Cub Pack or not. The following requirements are set for the badge to be completed successfully.

  1. Know about the Troop.
  2. Get to know the other Members and Leaders in the Patrol and Troop.
  3. Find out about the ceremonies and traditions in the Troop.
  4. Find out about the activities that the Patrol and Troop does.
  5. Know and understand the Scout Promise and Law and the rules of the Troop.
  6. Know and understand the Scout Motto, Sign, Salute and Handshake.
  7. Show a general knowledge of the history and family of Scouts and Scouting around the world.
  8. Know what to do at Investiture.

When you have completed the requirements you will be invested into the Scout Troop. During the ceremony you will be given several important badges.

  • World Membership Badge
  • Scottish Saltire
  • Pentland District Badge
  • South East Scotland Region Badge
  • Patrol Badge
  • Group Name Tape

Apart from the Membership Badge, these should be sewn on the right sleeve of your uniform. The diagramme on the right will help you to stich the badges on correctly.

If you have joined from the Cubs, you may have gained some Staged Activity badges (Swimmer, Emergency Aid, IT, Musician, Nights Away, Hikes Away). These badges may be transferred to the left arm of your new Scout Uniform.
